KARACHI, Feb 4: Leaders of various political parties at a Kashmir Conference here on Monday urged the international community to use its influence and stop the Indian government from committing state terrorism in occupied Kashmir to bring peace, harmony and prosperity to the region.

They stressed the need for solving the issue in accordance with the United Nations resolutions and to provide right of self-determination to the Kashmiris for deciding their own fate. They also called upon Pakistan to raise the issues of two other Indian states, Hyderabad Deccan and Jona Garh, in the UN.

The Kashmir Conference was organized by Mohajir Qaumi Movement, which was participated by the representatives of various political and religious parties.

MQM chairman Afaq Ahmed in his welcome address demanded of the US to play its positive role in solving the 54-year-old dispute. “When the US could kill thousands of innocent Afghans for the arrest of a person without any solid evidence so then why is it hesitating in solving the Kashmir dispute,” he asked.

Condemning Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiris, he said that over 0.7 million occupation troops were busy in killing the Kashmiris, some 80 thousands people have been martyred and more than 20 thousands disgraced and dishonoured by the Indian army since 1947.

Afaq Ahmed appealed to the political and religious parties to assure the government of their full cooperation and support for the solution of Kashmir issue.

He demanded President General Pervez Musharraf to call a national conference prior to his scheduled US tour in order to take the national leaders into confidence.

Prof N.D.Khan of Pakistan People’s Party Prof said Indian subcontinent had become a flash point in the world because of the two countries becoming nuclear powers.

He said the international community should seriously take notice of tension in the region and play its role in solving Kashmir issue.

Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi chief Dr Merajul Huda said the USA should use its influence to stop Israel’s terrorism in Palestine.

General secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Meraj Mohammad Khan claimed that foreign policy of the government had failed completely and expressed surprise that despite playing the role of a front-line state in the war against terrorism, the US was continuously ignoring Pakistan while on the other hand providing ordinance to India.

He held the view that the Indians were trying to pressurise Pakistan to soften its Kashmir policy through a massive army build-up on its borders.

Nusrat Mirza of Pakistan Muslim Rabita Council said all political parties should shun their difference and work vigorously for solution of Kashmir issue.

Others who spoke on the occasion included General Secretary of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Abdul Karim Abid; Provincial Chief of Awami National Party Amin Khattak; PPP leader Muzaffar Ali Shujrah; leader of Pakistan Democratic Party Basharat Mirza and Mir Nawaz Khan Marwat.—PPI/APP
