DADU: The Sindh education department has initiated action against 390 employees, who have been reported missing from their posts for extended periods but drawing salaries every month without fail in Dadu district.

Sindh Minister for Education Syed Sardar Ali Shah issued directives to the officers concerned of the district to take action against the absentees and immediately send report to him, said sources in the education department.

Following the minister’s directives, district education officers (DEOs) of primary and secondary (male and female) served notices on 390 absentee staffers, including high school teachers and primary school teachers, junior clerks, lab assistants, watchmen, and deputy messengers, said the sources.

They said that the employees had been absent from their duties for extended periods, some for as long as five years, while still drawing their salaries. The show-cause notices required the employees to appear before district officers (DOs) of secondary and primary education and submit their explanations by Aug 10, they said.

The department warned that employees who failed to respond to the notices or appear before the DOs would face further consequences, including the blocking of their Digital Identity Documents, they said.

They said that the move was part of a broader initiative led by the minister to enforce accountability and ensure effective functioning of educational institutions across the province.
