… “Among those who suffered severely during the sad days of September 1947 and afterwards, special sympathy was commanded by children and nursing mothers, and when the United Nations appeal for children was broadcast in Pakistan, due to Miss Fatima Jinnah’s personal and keen interest, people from all walks of life, contributed liberally to the Fund.”
[Meanwhile, according to Dawn’s staff correspondent in Karachi,] For the fifth day in succession, about 60 trucks and buses plying in Sind for load and passenger service lay idle on Saturday [Aug 6] at the Polo Ground, opposite Jinnah Courts … as a protest against the Sind Government’s decision to raise the taxes on public vehicles. These trucks plied between Karachi, Hyderabad, Hala, Moro and Halani, and in the Tharparkar district… .
