LOWER DIR: On the very first day of reopening of schools after one-month summer vacation, dozens of school students, area elders and youth staged a protest demonstration against the delay in reconstruction of Government Higher Secondary School Rabat here on Thursday.

The protesting elders and students gathered outside the under-constructionschool building and chanted slogans against the contractors and department concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, the elders complained that after dismantling the school building, reconstruction work was started on it two years ago, but the contractor had stopped the construction work for unknown reasons.

They said that more than 400 students of school were forced to sit under the open sky in this sizzling summer. The elders said the former deputy commissioner had promised them to arrange a rented building but nothing was done in this regard.

The protesters demanded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and provincial education authorities to take notice of the matter and release funds to the concerned contractor to complete the project soon.

HEATH FACILITIES: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mohammad Arif Bashir Khan chaired ameeting of the District Health Steering Committee at Timergara.

The meeting was briefed about availability of medicines and equipment, cleanliness and other facilities at hospitals and report of the previous meeting was also presented.

The ADC said that inquiries should be made to collect data of recently dispensed over-the-counter medicines in hospitals’ pharmacies and action should be taken against the staff involved in bogus entries in the records.

He also directed that appropriate legal action should be taken against absent doctors and medical staff of the hospitals.

DHO Dr Irshad Roghani, District Headquarters Hospital TimergaraMS Shahab Khan, representatives of departments concerned and others attended the meeting.
