LAHORE: Data Darbar police lodged a case against unidentified men for attacking and injuring a divisional SP during the main Muharram procession.

The incident occurred when the procession was heading towards Karbala Gamay Shah where some of the mourners tried to breach the security layer in an attempt to enter the Imambargah.

According to the FIR, some “outsiders” pushed the policemen deployed for security duty for the main procession.

As soon as the intruders removed the security barriers, City Division SP Qazi Ali Raza rushed to the main gate of Karbala Gamay Shah and alerted the police personnel.

Meanwhile, the FIR says, some of the intruders attacked the SP with “sharp chains”, injuring the officer and his staff operator Sohail.

Other policemen present there immediately shifted the SP and his staffer to hospital, where doctors stitched Raza’s deep wounds.

The SP’s staff operator was also provided treatment, according to the FIR.

The unidentified attackers fled the scene.
