LAHORE: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) DIG Imran Kishwar claims to have arrested seven employees of the state-run hospitals of Lahore who were involved in selling the government-supplied medicines in the local market.

Talking to media persons here on Monday, he said the CIA police arrested the suspects from Children’s Hospital, Nawaz Sharif Yakki Gate and Lahore General Hospital, recovered huge quantities of the medicines and lodged a case against them.

Mr Kishwar said the suspects used to remove the official label from the medicines to sell them at throw-away prices in the markets.

Many of the stolen medicines were sold in Peshawar, Multan and Rawalpindi, he said, adding that the suspects, including storekeepers of the hospitals, were arrested during frequent and separate raids carried out by a specially formed team of the CIA under the supervision of SP Furqan Bilal.

A first information report has been lodged against the suspects with the Kot Lakhpat police station, the DIG said.

He said more raids were being conducted to expand the scope of investigation.
