LAHORE, March 20: The Lahore High Court Bar Association on Monday called for the constitution of an international tribunal to try for war crimes US President George Bush, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and other heads of states and governments who joined the coalition against the so-called war on terrorism.
In a resolution, adopted unanimously by a meeting chaired by LHCBA president Mian Israrul Haq, the association demanded withdrawal of allied forces from Iraq and Afghanistan and cessation of ‘hostilities’ against Iran.
The resolution, adopted on completion of three years since the US-led invasion of Iraq and against its jingoistic designs in Afghanistan, was moved by advocate Ahmad Nawaz who said the demonstrations staged all over the globe against the occupation of Iraq showed that the whole world condemned the war imposed by a few rulers.
Mian Israrul Haq, finance secretary Rabiyya Bajwa, Malik Allahyar Khan and B A Fakhri said on the occasion the US-led forces invaded Iraq without any cogent reason. They viewed that the invaders could not substantiate their claim that Baghdad was developing chemical bombs and other destructive arms. They said the occupation of Iraq was an insult to peace and humanity and the United Nations was under an obligation to stop powerful rulers from ravaging the sovereignty of nations.
They also castigated the Pakistan government for choosing to side with the ‘forces of aggression’ despite the fact that the people despised the policies of the sole super power and its cronies in waging a ‘criminal war against the humanity.’
The resolution also demanded that the US and other allied governments should compensate for the losses they had inflicted upon the people of the countries under invasion for destroying their property and plundering their national resources.
LICENCES: The Pakistan Bar Council Enrolment Committee has decided to grant professional licences to four lawyers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad allowing them to practice at the Supreme Court.
