MIRPURKHAS, March 18: The project director of the National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses, Mohammad Younus Dagah, has directed officers concerned to line 168 watercourses in the Umerkot district by June.
He was presiding over a meeting to review progress of the project in Umerkot on Saturday.
Officers concerned told the meeting about the pace of work in their respective areas, cooperation of growers and problems they were facing.
They said 238 applications had been received for lining of watercourses in the district and a survey of 185 watercourses had been completed, 170 of which had been found approved for lining.
DEATH ANNIVERSARY: The 13th death anniversary of former prime minister Mohammad Khan Junejo was observed in the Khan Sahib Din Mohammad Junejo village in Sindhri on Saturday.
Hundreds of people, including the adviser to the chief minister, Faqir Jadim Mangrio, Sanghar District Nazim Khuda Bux Rajar, Umerkot District Nazim Faqir Manghan Mangrio, Khipro Taluka Nazim Khuda Bux Dars, Sanghar District Naib Nazim Dr Mehmood Ahmad Rajput, district Pakistan Muslim League president Khair Mohammad Bhurgari, PML leader Syed Shahabuddin Shah Hussaini, Kot Ghulam Mohammad Taluka Nazim Noor Mohammad Bhurgari and Punjab PML leader Asghar Khan, attended the anniversary function.
Asad Ali Junejo, son of the late Mohammad Khan Junejo, welcomed guests.
Quran Khwani was also held on the occasion and Fateha was offered for the departed soul.
Flower wreaths were laid on the grave of Mohammad Khan Junejo.
HRCP: Two activists of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Mirpurkhas chapter, Kanji Ranomal Bheel and Sarwan Kumar, have demanded that police authorities should ensure registration of an FIR against Sultan Mehmood Chandio as per an order of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad bench, and recovery of a kidnapped woman.
In a joint press statement issued here on Saturday, they alleged that about one year ago, Sultan Mehmood and his three accomplices had kidnapped Matal, wife of Sohbat, in Mehran Colony Mirpurkhas.
They said that on March 13, the SHC on a petition filed by the woman’s father, Ghulam Haider Lashari, ordered the Mirpurkhas police to lodge a case against Sultan Mehmood in the light of a statement of the petitioner and submit a report in the court within 15 days.
They called upon authorities to ensure registration of the case and arrest of the accused.
