UK minister due today

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: The British Secretary of International Development, Clare Short, is arriving here on Wednesday on a two-day official visit to Pakistan.

She is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Minister for Finance Shaukat Aziz, who would also meet President pervez Musharraf and the minister for foreign affairs.

According to official sources, Ms Short who is a senior member of the Labour Party and an important minister in the Prime Minister Toni Blair’s cabinet was visiting Pakistan to evaluate the country’s social sector requirements. She is known for her work to reduce poverty in third world countries. Ms Short controls United Kingdom’s aid for poverty reduction.
