LAKKI MARWAT, March 12: The anti-corruption police on Sunday arrested 11 people, including four officials of the tehsil municipal administration (TMA), on the charge of inflicting huge losses to government exchequer by using substandard material in the construction of Rod Kohi irrigation dykes.
Official sources said that the Lakki anti-corruption police had registered a case against the officials of the TMA Lakki and government contractors under section 417, 419, 423, 468 of PPC on the charges of using low quality material in construction of Road Kohi dykes in several parts of the district.
On Saturday night they conducted raids and arrested the officials and the contractors.
Those arrested include Tehsil Officer (Infrastructure) Muhammad Farooq, Assistant Tehsil Officer (Infrastructure) Abdul Dayan, Tehsil Officer (Finance) Ismatullah Khan, Overseer Abdul Majeed Khan and contractors Muhammad Ismail, Haji Abbas Khan Khoidadkhel, Naeem Khan, Nawab Khan, Haji Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Salim and Syed Yaqoob Shah.
They were shifted to district jail Bannu.
Former governor NWFP Syed Iftikhar Hussain had provided Rs20.75 million to the district government for construction and rehabilitation of the Rod Kohi irrigation system.
Theources said that the contractors had allegedly used substandard construction material as a result of which a number of dykes were washed away by floodwater.
Later the MMA government, on receiving complaints from people, sent a team to conduct a probe into the allegation.
The team found the officials of the TMA and the contractors involved in irregularities and recommended to the provincial government to take legal action against them.
