ISLAMABAD: A police official was martyred by the firing of suspects within the limits of Koral police station on Sunday.

According to a police official, a police team had carried out a raid on a hideout to arrest suspects.

During the raid, the suspects opened fire as a result of which Constable Mohammad Shoaib was critically injured. He was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Over 9,200 tickets issued to motorists

The capital police issued 9,203 fine tickets to vehicles and motorcycles for having fancy or non-pattern number plates this year.

According to a statement, on the special directions of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the police intensified action against the vehicles having fancy, non-pattern number plates and unregistered vehicles and fined 9,203 vehicles and bikes for violating traffic rules and imposed fines on them.

The purpose of the campaign was to ensure high alert security, maintaining law and order to ensure protection of the lives as well as property of citizens and avert any untoward incident. Police have urged motorists to display number plates issued by Excise and Taxation Office and also keep with them their driving licences and vehicle documents. Action against non-pattern number plate vehicles will continue till the complete implementation of law.

“Special squads have also been constituted to take action against those using unauthorised number plates. Citizens are also requested to cooperate with police and display authorised number plates issued by the Excise and Taxation Office,” the statement said.
