RAWALPINDI: A police official was gunned down in Pirwadhai, while another man was killed in a road accident on Wednesday.

In the first incident, police said Saeed Khan, associated with Rawalpindi police, was murdered in the Pirwadhai area in the early hours of Wednesday.

A passer-by informed the emergency police at 4:30 am on Wednesday that a man had been murdered near a commercial building. After receiving the emergency call, the Pirwadhai police reached the spot and shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem. The deceased was identified as Saeed Khan, associated with Rawalpindi police, and had been posted at the Police Lines in Rawalpindi. According to the police, the motive for the murder appeared to be old enmity.

In another incident, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Chairing Cross Peshawar Road on Wednesday.

Police said Tariq Mahmood, 35, was on his way to Saddar from Choor on his motorcycle when a vehicle hit him on Peshawar Road killinbg him on the spot.

Meanwhile, more than 1,500 officers of Rawalpindi police will be deployed to prevent kite flying and jubilation firing. Last Friday several people were injured during Friday’s basant. In this regard, city police officer Syed Khalid Hamdani held a meeting at the Police Lines Headquarters on Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting, the CPO gave necessary instructions regarding anti-kite flying and the prevention of crimes.

The CPO was equally worried about the sharp rise in theft and snatching of motorcycles, cars, and mobile phones, as he directed speedy action against the accused involved in car and motorcycle theft and mobile snatching incidents.

All senior officers should be present in the field and monitor the crackdown on kite flying and jubilation firing, said the CPO.
