LARKANA, March 2: The council officer of the Larkana district council has refused to receive a requisition by 16 pro-PPP members for summoning council session. UC-7 Nazim Ghulam Qadir Bhutto said that sixteen members had signed the requisition papers.

They are: Niaz Leghari, Abdul Qadir Sangi, Ali Gohar Bhatti, Bakar Junejo, Noorul Haq, Ghulam Qadir Bhutto, Gul Hassan Shahani, Yusuf Abro and Sarwar Shaikh, Nisar Bhutto and Khair Mohammed Shaikh (nazims).

Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto, Yasmin Shaikh, Lal Khatoon, Nasiban Channa and Mashooque Jatoi (returned on special seats of labour, women and peasant).

The members wanted to discuss the issues of publishing blasphemous cartoons, law and order and development schemes in the district.

The agenda also included debate on digging of newly repaired roads and inviting tenders bypassing the district council.

PPP: The PPP leadership is thinking over launching a campaign against the government to counter its smear campaign initiated against Benazir Bhutto.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, MPA Ayaz Soomro said that the rulers had crossed all norms of decency and indulged in mud-slugging campaign.

Mr Soomro said the government had lost its senses after London court’s report and was out to malign the popular leadership of the country.

They said the rulers were afraid of the popularity of the PPP that had secured record number of votes in the general election of 2002.

They said the government was trying to block all roads to democracy and involved in perpetuating its rule by spoiling the international stature of Benazir Bhutto.

They termed fresh charges as unfounded and criticized the federal information minister.

They said that choosing this time for media trial campaign when US President Bush was on Pakistan’s visit, was only to deviate peoples pressure mounted against defective and direction less policies of the government.
