KARACHI, March 2: The National Transport Ittehad, Karachi, an alliance of 18 organizations of transporters, and the Sindh Bus-Owners Association have announced their full support to the nationwide strike call for March 3 against the publication of blasphemous caricatures published by the European press.

At a joint meeting of the associations of bus-owners, minibuses, coaches, rickshaws, taxis, yellow cabs, Suzuki pick-ups, trucks, trailers and inter-provincial transport services on Thursday, it was decided that no transport would be operated on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Jamaat-i-Islami has announced that the schedule of the protest rallies and demonstrations to be held in Karachi on Friday against the blasphemous caricatures would remain unaffected by the blast in the city.

The call for the strike has been given by all parties and groups that have launched the vigorous campaign, Tahafuz Namoos-i-Risalat, in the country and decided to observe March 3 as an international day of protest.

Karachi Amir of the JI Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui said on Thursday that the demonstrations, rallies and processions against the act of blasphemy would be held after Jumma prayers across the city, like in other parts of the country, to register Muslims’ anger and protest against the US and western countries for their support to such a heinous assault on Islam.

SNF: Chairman of the Sindh National Front and Sindh Qaumi Ittehad Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto has extended support to the call for a countrywide strike on March 3, and directed the SNF SQI workers to actively take part in the protest.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Sardar Bhutto said that the people of Pakistan had now taken to the street because the conditions in the country had turned intolerable for them due to the wrong policies pursued by the rulers.

PTI: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf has said that it would not only take part in the March 3 protests, but would also stage demonstrations across the country on the arrival of President Bush against the anti-Islam policies of the US.

PTI Sindh chief Zubair Khan told a press conference here on Thursday that President Bush was responsible for the killings of thousands of people in Iraq and Afghanistan.
