KARACHI, Feb 28: The Sindh Assembly session on Tuesday, which was private members’ day, was adjourned till Friday by Deputy Speaker Rahila Tiwana following uproar in the House.

Before calling it a day she gave repeated warnings to members on both sides of the divide for order in the House. But failing to get positive response, she gave her ruling that since the members failed to behave in orderly manner which showed that they were not serious in running the business, the House stood adjourned till Friday.

The rumpus started in the House when Zahid Bhurgari of the PPP from Hyderabad during question-hour started delivering an emotional speech in response to the statement of Muhammad Hussain of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Mr Hussain before putting up a supplementary question on package for development of Hyderabad, which was announced by Shaukat Aziz in 2003, paid tributes to the government for Hyderabad development while the past government did not pay any attention to any city except Larkana. He had stated that when development work was being initiated in Hyderabad, the other side was after finding fault on one or the other account to prove that the development work was being delayed.

Responding to his statement, Zahida Bhurgari said that maximum development work was carried out during the last four years of PPP Nazim in Hyderabad district government. He said this House should form a committee to check the development record of the PPP period in Hyderabad when schools, roads water and gas supply schemes were executed mostly in urban centres.

However, he said, with the change of government in Hyderabad, people in the power joined hands with builders’ mafia and got 100-year-old ladies club sealed. After a series of protest demos, its office-bearers broke the seal and started using it again. They also got old Dialdas Club sealed located in the heart of the city with over 100 years of history.

He also referred to ban on entry of large buses into the city without providing any alternate of small vehicles to people in talukas of Hyderabad. On protest, he said, the implementation of this decision was postponed for 15 days.

In short, Zahid Bhurgri said no development had been initiated since the new nazim came into power in Hyderabad.

Without naming the Muttahida Qaumi Movement when Bhurgari started accusing their Hyderabad government of indulging in sealing old clubs, the treasury benches started uproar and many members stood up from their seat. They were equally responded from the opposition benches. As nothing was audible the chair asked Mr Bhurgari to be relevant and get back to his seat but he continued his speech.

Mines and Mineral Minister Irfanullah Marwat advised the chair to adjourn the session as the opposition was not serious in carrying out the business.

Before issuing final warning, the chair sought indulgence of the leader of opposition to ask his member to take his seat without any result. However, when leader of the opposition saw that a communication was being conveyed to the chair, Mr Bhurgari took his seat and comparatively an order was restored only to listen the ruling of the chair.

Earlier, leader of the opposition Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, Mehtab Dhar, Sassi Palejo, Anwar Mehar, Humera Alwani and others had raised supplementary questions about inordinate delay in execution of the package. These supplementary questions were replied by Sardar Ahmad by explaining procedural work from hiring consultants, appointment of project directors and other stages of approval of the development schemes before release of funds for execution.
