HYDERABAD, Feb 26: The district government has planned to run a shuttle bus service with cheap fare on one of the main arteries of the city.

It will run between the Jail road and Gharib Nawaz bridge in order to implement ban on entry of local busses on the busy road.

The decision was taken by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil after he met Hyderabad taluka nazim (rural), Khawind Bux Jahejo and Qasimabad Taluka Naib Nazim Ghulam Hyder Shahani.

The district government had initially banned entry of local buses on February 26 from jail road point in order to avoid congestion in the city.

The plan was opposed by transporters and three UC nazims, one of them associated with transport business also.

The nazim is determined to enforce ban from March 15 and said that shuttle bus service would be plied on cheaper fares with four designated pick and drop points i.e. civil hospital, St.Mary roundabout, Chotki Ghitti and Kohinoor chowk.

He added that shuttle service would begin from jail road and culminate at Gharib Nawaz bridge. He said that buses which were fit and in proper condition could be plied on the same route adding that other routes of buses would remain unaffected.

“There are chaotic conditions on this main artery of the city”, he said and added that transporters had been briefed about alternate routes involving areas of lined channel, Ghangra Mori, Auto Ban Road, Maki Shah and Latifabad.

The taluka nazim (rural) told Dawn that a group of transporters of rural taluka approached him to intervene and get them some time so that they could adjust to the new schedule or dispose of the buses.

He said that these people are running buses on local routes of Massu Bhurgari, Meerani Goth, Palejani, Husri, Tandojam for Jamshoro and other routes.
