KARACHI, Feb 26: The city naib nazim, Nasreen Jalil, said that a strategy was being evolved to generate funds and develop proper mechanism meeting the health needs of the masses.

She was speaking at the 17th Karachi City Marathon and Health Walk organized by the Pakistan Medical Association, here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that it was in this context that the city government had initiated a programme to streamline administrative affairs of all its hospitals and health care facilities scattered across the city.

Ms Jalil said that the city government realized the fact that every citizen, without any distinction, must be entitled to quality and prompt health care interventions.

“Since assuming the administration of the metropolis the Haq Parast leadership of the city government is concentrating towards health care needs of the citizens,” she said.

Ms Jalil on the occasion opened the Karachi Marathon and Walk by releasing pigeons in the air. The walk commenced from the PMA - House, Garden Road and culminated at the Mazar-i-Quaid after passing through M.A. Jinnah Road.

The walk, among others, was also participated by the PMA office-bearers besides students belonging to more than 60 schools of Karachi.

There were also over 200 participants representing general public of Karachi. The city naib nazim who remained part of the walk since its commencement to its culmination felicitated the PMA office-bearers. PMA has been able to arrange the walk on every last Sunday of each February for the last 17 years.

She said the current year theme of the walk “Keep Karachi Clean, Keep Karachi Green” holds particular relevance to the aims and objectives of the city government.

She mentioned that gadgets worth Rs560 million for cleanliness of the city had been procured from Germany.—APP
