GUJRANWALA, Feb 24: Another human smuggler was arrested by a raiding party of the FIA passport cell here on Friday.
Reports said that accused Muhammad Saleem was arrested from his residence after a raid was conducted on the directive of FIA deputy director Muhammad Naeem Akram Bharoka.
The arrested accused had sent dozens of youths to South Africa and Australia after receiving heavy amount of money from them. While several youths were arrested by South African security forces when they were crossing the border.
ALLOWED: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Friday allowed an arrested student to take his B.Com examination in the jail.
The court also directed the jail authority to provide the jailed student books and other facilities for preparation of his examination.
Police had arrested Shahid for his involvement in violence during a protest procession against the publication of cartoons in Denmark and other European countries a few days ago.
While the accused student pleaded before court that he should be allowed to appear in the examination.
BUSTED: Model Town police on Friday claimed to have busted four gangs of bandits after brief encounters.
It was stated that armed robbers kidnapped cloth market trader Abdul Aziz and also took away his vehicle after injuring him on resistance in Model Town.
On receiving information, a raiding party led by SHO Tahir Farooq Cheema chased culprits. On seeing police, they opened fire which was returned. However, the culprits laid down their arms after a brief shootout.
Later, three more gangs of dacoits were arrested by the police in raids at their hideouts. The arrested gang members belonged to the Amjad gang, the Asif Warraich gang and the Muhammad Nasim alias Kashi gang. While accused Tanvir was an activist of a political party of Karachi.
Police also seized a huge quantity of illicit arms, Rs50,000 in cash and looted goods, including a land cruiser and four other vehicles.
