Bomb found near phone firm’s tower

LAKKI MARWAT, Feb 24: Lakki police on Friday a sabotage attempt and defused an explosive device which had been planted near installations of a Norweigian cellular company.

Official sources told Dawn that Ikramullah, watchman at Telenor’s installations, informed local police about a suspicious shopping bag lying near the company’s tower.

A police team reached the place were it found a powerful time-device comprising a gas cylinder, detonator and a stop watch. A bomb disposal squad was called from Bannu, which defused the locally-made bomb weighing 5 kilograms, the sources said.

They suspected extremists to be behind the sabotage attempt.

Lakki police have registered a case under section 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substance Act and started investigation.
