KARACHI: The owner of a general store, said to be associated with the outlawed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), was shot dead in what police described as a targeted attack in Korangi on Tuesday.

Korangi SHO Amin Solangi said that two assailants riding on a motorbike arrived at a shop in Zia Colony, one of them got off the two-wheeler and opened straight fire on Muhammad Saleem, 50. He suffered two bullet wounds and died on the spot. The assailants managed to flee safely, he added.

The SHO said it appeared that their actual target was his son who was the district president of the ASWJ in Korangi.

He said that Saleem’s son had left the shop around 15 minutes before the incident.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the ASWJ demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
