MIRPURKHAS, Feb 20: The Mirpurkhas District Council on Monday approved new schemes under the Annual Development Programme amidst protest by some members. Dr Zafar Kamali presided over the session.
The council, through a resolution tabled by Mohammad Iqbal, also condemned the publication of blasphemous cartoons. Some members, including Nawab Younus Talpur, Yar Mohammad Baloch, Mir Nasrullah Talpur and Fatima Baloch, protested for not holding Fateha Khwani on the demise of veteran politician Wali Khan.
They also called for staging a peaceful walk against the publication of the sacrilegious cartoons and sought permission from the convener who suspended the proceedings for 15 minutes.
After the proceedings were resumed, some members demanded that voting should be conducted for approval of minutes of the last meeting and the new schemes under the ADP.
The council also passed resolutions for performing Fateha Khwani for Wali Khan.
DCO Khurshid Naeem Malik, agriculture EDO Riaz Ahmad Dayo, health EDO Hadi Bux Laghari and officers of other departments also attended the meeting.
SUICIDE: A peasant, Deewan Kolhi, of the Ghulam Nabi Shash town committed suicide by taking pesticide on Monday over some domestic issue. His body was taken to the local basic health centre for autopsy.
