Wapda denies report

Published February 21, 2006

LAHORE, Feb 20: A Wapda spokesman has contradicted a news item carried by a section of the press on Feb 20 in which the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture at a meeting held in Hyderabad reportedly alleged that work on the construction of the Kalabagh dam was being carried out clandestinely.

The spokesman said in a press release that the allegation was incorrect, baseless and misleading. The spokesman also denied transfer of any machinery from Tarbela to Kalabagh or that any work was being done on the Kalabagh dam project.

The spokesman pointed out that Wapda had no secret funds nor could it spend any money on a project which had not been approved by the federal government.
