KARACHI, Feb 20: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that every citizen, irrespective of his religion, caste or creed, is secure in the province. The government and people respect minorities as this is a part of Islam’s golden principles.

He was talking to a delegation of Christian community, which called on him at the Governor’s House here on Monday. Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui and IGP Jehangir Mirza were also present.

Bishop Sadiq Daniel, Father Joseph Paul and Rafiq Masih were members of the delegation.

The delegation thanked the governor for taking immediate measures with regard to the ransacking and burning of churches in Sukkur.

The governor told the delegation that the government had taken effective measures to ensure security of minorities and for creating a cordial atmosphere in the province.

Lamenting the Sukkur incident, he said an investigation into the incident was under way and the losses caused to the churches would be compensated. The church buildings, he added, would be restored in a better shape.

Dr Ibad said that the government had promptly responded after receiving information about the incident and brought the situation under control.

He told the delegation that providing security to minorities without any discrimination was a responsibility of the government and it would keep on taking every possible step to fulfil the same.

The delegation told the governor that minorities stood along with their Muslim compatriots on every issue, and noted that people of Sindh were open-hearted. They pointed out that minorities had also condemned publication of the blasphemous sketches.

On the occasion, the home minister and IGP apprised the governor of the details of the Sukkur incident.—PPI
