Hamas team on tour of Muslim states

GAZA CITY, Feb 12: A Hamas delegation is expected to visit several Muslim countries in the coming days, including Turkey and Iran, a senior leader of the radical Palestinian movement said on Sunday.

Ismail Haniya, who led Hamas to victory in last month’s general election, told AFP that members of a delegation who were currently in Doha had received invitations to several other countries.

“The delegation will go to Sudan today or tomorrow and after Sudan we expect to go to Turkey.

They also have a visit to Saudi Arabia in their programme.”

Haniya added that the delegation would also visit Malaysia and Iran.

Since its landslide victory on January 25, Hamas has embarked on something of a diplomatic charm offensive, with leaders visiting Egypt and securing a coveted invitation to talks in Moscow.—AFP
