LAHORE, Feb 10: Protesters torched four buses after a college student was killed in an accident in Factory Area on Thursday. Police said Asif, 19, was on way home when a rashly driven intra-city route bus hit him. He got injuries and died in hospital.

Passersby and residents of the area gathered on the spot and damaged the bus before putting it on fire. The police rushed there and tried to disperse the protesters but to no avail.

After an hour, the protesters left the spot. They gathered again at Kot Lakhpat Chowk and continued intercepting the vehicles passing by and burnt three public transport buses.

The protesters dispersed when the police assured them of due action against the bus company, and told them that they had arrested the bus driver, who killed the student, and registered a case against him.

The body was returned to family without autopsy.
