FAISALABAD, Feb 10: People belonging to all walks of life on Friday cried out against the publication of blasphemous caricatures in some European newspapers across the Punjab and announced boycott of their products.
In Faisalabad, the major rally was taken out from Jamia Masjid Qasmia, Ghulam Muhammadabad, under the aegis of the PML-N, JUI and some religious organizations.
The rally was led by PML-N MNA Raja Nadir Pervez and MPAs — Sheikh Ijaz Ahmad and Malik Muhammad Nawaz Jameet, besides JUI secretary-general Zahid Mahmood Qasmi.
The participants chanted slogans against the newspapers that carried the depictions and burnt flag of Denmark. They announced boycott of the European products and demanded that the government should suspend all its trade and diplomatic relations with the countries which had maligned Islam.
Several other rallies, including the MMA’s, were taken out in the district.
GUJRANWALA: Activists of religious parties demonstrated and took out three processions during which they set afire effigies of the heads of many countries.
Demanding expulsion of ambassadors of these countries and boycott of foreign products, they pledged that they would continue protest till heads of these countries tendered apology and suspend publication of the newspapers involved in blasphemy.
The district bar association and JUP are taking out procession on Saturday (today).
SIALKOT: The MMA took out a rally in the city and condemned in the strongest terms publication of blasphemous caricatures.
Local leaders MPA Arshad Mahmood Baggu advocate, Hafiz Matiur Rehman and others led the rally.
They described the incident as a global conspiracy against the Muslim Ummah and said it was too much to shake the conscience of the UNO and the OIC whom they urged to come forward and adopt measures against the western world.
The activists of all the religious organizations attended the rally. They had held placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the anti-Islam lobbies. They lashed the publications and bigotry of the nations involved in it.
Similar rallies were taken out in Sargodha, Kasur, Toba Tek Singh, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara and Bahawalnagar.
