KARACHI: Parasram, 30-year-old Hindu Con­fidential Assistant to the Sind Premier, Pir Illahi Bakhsh, was detained by the Kara­chi Air Port Customs and later handed over to the Police yesterday … [Sept 30] when he was about to leave for India… . In his possession was found a copy of a confidential document relating to trucks, … jeeps, important bridges and other strategic positions requiring special defence measures in … Sind. … Five letters were also recovered from him, two written by Mr Sri Prakasa, the Indian High Commissioner, and three by Mr Jamshed Nusserwanji Mehta. …

Mr Sri Prakasa’s letters were addressed to Messrs Abul Kalam Azad, Jairamdas Daulat­ram, and Vallabhbhai Patel, while Mr Nus­serwanji’s letters were addressed to Dr John Mathai and Mr Mohanlal Saxena. In recommending the employment of Parasram by the Government of India, Mr Sri Prakasa said that Parasram would be “an asset to the De­­fence Department of the Government of India”.

Another … find … were “office copies” of two letters purported to have been written by Pir Illahi Bakhsh himself on Sept 8, 1948, to Mr Govind Balabh Pant, U.P. Premier, and Mr B.G. Kher, Bombay Premier. In both these letters, Pir Illahi Bakhsh superlatively praised the “integrity” of Parasram... .
