LAHORE: The Punjab caretaker cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of a Rs500 million endowment fund for artists.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi pledged to review actionable recommendations put forth by the artists, saying that their pivotal role in garnering international acclaim for the nation.

He emphasised the government’s support for artists and singers, reflecting their crucial significance in the cultural landscape. He also expressed a collaborative approach in advocating for the welfare of journalists alongside artists, recognising the vital roles they play in society.

He said while the temporary ban on stage plays was instated in response to explicit content, the ultimate goal remained reform rather than harm to the industry.

He said stringent standard operating procedures have been formulated to regulate stage plays, ensuring their content aligns with appropriate standards.

Also, Mr Naqvi inspected the Shahdara flyovers project, which is currently at 88 per cent completion. He checked the protective walls of the Shahdara flyovers and emphasized the need to accelerate construction activities.
