ISLAMABAD: A proclaimed offender wanted in several cases was killed in an encounter in the capital’s rural area, police said on Saturday.

A case was registered with Khanna police station on charges of PPCs 302, 324, 186, 353 and 34.

According to the FIR, Khanna police got information that a suspect wanted by them in connection with murder and attempted murder cases, was hiding in a house along with his accomplices in Pindorian.

The police reached the house and called on the suspect to surrender, but instead he and his accomplices opened indiscriminate fire on them, the FIR said.

The police team took cover behind the house and remained unhurt due to the protective gear they were wearing.

The officials retaliated following which three armed persons came out of the house and continued firing on them and managed to escape.

The police team pursued them and during the chase one of the suspects was injured by the firing of his own accomplices, the FIR said, adding that on inquiry, the injured told the police that he was wanted in a number of cases.

He later succumbed to his injuries, the police added.

The team searched for his accomplices, but remained unsuccessful, police officials said, adding that the body was later shifted to the hospital for autopsy.

Later, in a statement posted on the platform X, the police’s public relation officer confirmed that a team raided a house to arrest the proclaimed offender, but he and his accomplices opened fire on the police and as a result, the wanted man was killed in the firing of his own accomplices.

He said the suspect was wanted in eight separate cases registered with Khanna and Taxila on charges of murder, murder attempt, dacoity, land grabbing and other heinous crimes.
