ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has categorically rejected Afghan Government’s allegations of its involvement in … anti-government conspiracies unearthed in Afghanistan. A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here tonight [Sept 22] described the Afghan charge as baseless and gratuitous.

The statement said: The Government of Afghanistan has alleged in a statement broadcast by Radio Kabul … that the Government of Pakistan has been involved in … anti-government conspiracies. … This is a baseless, gratuitous charge and the Government of Pakistan categorically rejects it. The Government … has noted with deep regret that this false allegation has been made by a country with which Pakistan has always been trying to establish friendly relations... .

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Washington,] Dr Henry Kissinger, who came to the United States at the age of 15 in 1938 as a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany, was sworn in today as US Secretary of State. … President Nixon … said Dr. Kissinger was superbly qualified … to build a durable peace.
