KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday imposed a ban on pillion riding in Karachi on Sept 25 and Sept 29 on the occasions of Chup Tazia and Eid-i-Miladun Nabi, respectively.

Besides Karachi, the ban will also be in place in Hyderabad, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sukkur.

According to a notification, the government has imposed the ban on pillion riding on 8th Rabiul Awwal (Monday) and 12th Rabiul Awwal (Friday).

The ban has been imposed on the recommendation of the Sindh police chief “in order to maintain law and order and to avoid any untoward incident/mishap during the processions of Chup Tazia and celebrations of 12th Rabiul Awwal”.

The ban shall not be applicable on women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement/security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services. Published in Dawn, September 23th, 2023
