KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead and their accomplice was wounded in a joint encounter carried out by a citizen and police at Burnes Road, police and rescuers said on Sunday.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said that a family was present nearby an ice cream parlour on Burnes Road. Three muggers riding a motorbike arrived there and tried to snatch a purse and phone from the wife of a citizen who put up resistance and fired at the suspects.

A police patrol also reached the spot and in an ensuing exchange of gunfire, one robber was killed while his two accomplices were arrested in wounded condition.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that one suspect was pronounced dead on arrival at the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi while another died during treatment.
