KARACHI: A fund-raising event for a neuropsychiatric hospital being established in the Gadap area was organised at the Chief Minister’s (CM) House on Wednesday.

The event was hosted by Children of Adam (CoA), a non-profit organisation working in various parts of the world to carry out relief work and provide assistance in the areas of food and shelter.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his unwavering support for the cause of specialised neuropsychiatric care within the community.

“Given the growing prevalence of neurological and psychiatric disorders in society, we need to have health facilities solely dedicated to tackling these illnesses,” he said, emphasising that everyone should support the noble cause.

He also spoke of the work being done by the government in the health sector and said it had set up treatment and training centres for drug addicts in Hyderabad, Karachi and Sukkur.

The government was also in the process of upgrading the Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry Hospital in Hyderabad.

CoA CEO Shahzad Sadan informed the audience that the hospital would be equipped with holistic mental health facilities and serve the masses for free.

According to him, the hospital would have inpatient and outpatient departments and offer treatment for bipolar disorders, autistic disorders, pervasive developmental disorders, schizophrenic disorders, anxiety, and depression,” he said, adding that the hospital would also offer electroconvulsive therapy and rehabilitation services.

“The funds raised will be utilised to construct the neuropsychiatric hospital with cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, advanced treatment facilities, and comprehensive patient support services.” In addition, a portion of the funds will be allocated for research initiatives,” he said.
