PESHAWAR: Mr. P.T. Duncan, Political Agent, South Waziristan, is reported to have been shot dead at Sararogha on Jandola Razmak road about 60 miles from Tank yesterday [May 31], where he had gone on tour. Two of his bodyguards were injured. The assailant, who is stated to be Mahsud, was shot dead.

A Press communique issued by the Frontier Government in connection with this incident says: “It is announced with deepest regret that Mr P.T. Duncan, Political Agent, South Waziristan, was attacked and killed by an assailant yesterday afternoon. … His Excellency Sir Ambrose Dundas, Governor of NWFP, who was to have left Peshawar this morning for Nathiagali has postponed his departure in order to attend the funeral ceremony. The Provincial Government last night ordered that all the Government offices and courts in the province would remain closed today, June 1, as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased. The dead body of the deceased was brought today to Peshawar for burial. … Late P.T. Duncan … was considered to be one of the best officers of Pakistan Government.
