MUZAFFARGARH: Six members of a family were killed and two others suffered injuries after a blast occurred in some scrap lying at a house on Thursday at Daira Din Pannah, some 60 kilometres from here.

Reports said the family members were sorting out waste material and scrap lying in their house when a mysterious explosion took place, killing five people on the spot while a minor girl succumbed to her injuries at hospital.

Police and Rescue 1122 reached the spot and shifted the injured to local rural health centre from where they were referred to Kot Addu DHQ Hospital and later admitted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

The deceased have been identified as Bilal, Iqbal, Haseena Mai, Shano Mai, Sadia (4) and a one-year-old baby girl.

Punjab IG Usman Anwar has sought a report from Dera Ghazi Khan RPO Sajjad Hassan. Muzaffargarh DPO Hasnain Haider has formed a team to probe the incident.

Meanwhile, some locals claimed that a gas cylinder exploded in the house; however, police are investigating the matter.

Caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi has expressed regret over the loss of lives and sought a report from the IG.
