LAHORE: Intermittent rain, accompanied by wind, in different parts of the city on Wednesday turned the weather pleasant.

The Met Office has predicted more light-to-heavy rains for different parts of Punjab during the next 24 hours as well.

Different parts of Lahore, including Dharampura, Canal Road, Garhi Shahu, The Mall, Zaman Park, Zahoor Elahi Road, Jail Road, Ichhra, Ferozepur Road, Kot Lakhpat, Kacha Jail Road, Model Town, Johar Town, Township and Islampura, received rain.

According to Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), maximum 12.2mm rain was recorded at airport, 6.8mm at Jail Road, 7mm in Johar Town, 8mm at Laxmi Chowk and The Mall, 2.5mm in Mughalpura, 4mm in Tajpura and Nishter Town, 4.5mm in Farrukhabad and upper Mall, 4mm at Gulshan-i-Ravi and 2mm rain was recorded in Samanabad.

Because of the the rain, low-lying areas witnessed accumulation of rainwater.Meanwhile, several feeders and transformers of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) tripped due to the rain, depriving the consumers of electricity for hours.

Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa has directed the officials concerned of Wasa, Municipal Corporation Lahore (MCL), Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and district administration to remain in the field with all available resources for flushing out rainwater from low-lying areas and roads.

He directed them to make all the emergency camps set up at different points in the city operational.
