RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha on Sunday directed Rawalpindi Municipal Administration and traffic police to clear encroachments along Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and I.J. Principal Road to ease the traffic mess as soon as possible.

He said this during his visit to both places. He also checked illegal bus stands adjacent to General Bus Stand.

Trees should be planted along the main road and bus stand to make the environment pollution-free, he said and inspected trees planted after the removal of encroachments on the IJP road. At Mandi Mor, land was retrieved from the illegal bus stand and trees were planted.

During the visit, he inspected the mosque being built on encroached land in Mandi Mor. The commissioner said that Pirwadhai General Bus Stand would be upgraded and turned into a model for the province with the facility of air-conditioned waiting halls and free service of porters for women and elderly passengers to carry their luggage from the waiting area to the bus stand.

He said that the condition of waiting halls was bad and it was decided that air-conditioners would be installed in waiting halls at the bus stand. “For the information of buses, a special desk had been established for women where female staff will be deployed so they could get information without any hesitation,” he said.

He said that for cleanliness, sanitation staff had been deployed to clean the area round the clock and cleanliness of washrooms would be ensured. He said that construction work for renovation of washrooms had been started and white wash would be done in building and bus bays.
