KARACHI, Jan 18: Five-day trials to select a national squad for Davis Cup tennis tie against Chinese Taipei would be held here on Jan 20-24, Sindh Tennis Association (STA) announced on Wednesday.
Davis Cup tie against Taiwan will be held at their own hard courts from Feb 10 to 12.
The STA, which is conducting the trials and afterwards a training camp on behalf of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), has invited Asim Shafiq, Nomi Qamar, Jalil Khan, Shahzad Khan, Muhammad Shafiq and Inam Gul to appear in trials.
Pakistan’s two star players Aisamul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan have got exemption from the trials, which will be held on round robin-league basis. They are currently playing in China Future ITF Tournament and will join the training camp on Jan 24.
The camp will be organised after the trials. M Khalid Siddiq will supervise the camp. Khwaja Saeed Hai has been named manager and Khalid Rehmani camp commandant.
The PTF also has invited seven junior players to appear in trials to be held separately and the best of them will attend the national camp and travel to Taiwan as an observer.
They include Omer Babar, Khurram Nazir, Tanveer Ashiq, Usman Ijaz, Yasir Khan, Danish Ahmed and Hidyatulah. —APP
