NAWABSHAH, Jan 18: Residents of Bahawal Shah deh and Chhatan Shah of the Sakrand taluka staged a demonstration outside the local press club on Wednesday demanding removal of the Chachar tribe from their area.
The protesters were led by Waseer Ali Shah, Salamat Shah, Ghous Mohammad Shah, Wali Mohammad, Mir Mallah, Salamat Mallah and Zaman Shah.
They said that they were living in the Nasiri forest from a long time and had more than 500 houses.
The protesters said that they were also members of the Save Forest Action Committee.
They said that last year some Chachar tribesmen from Jamshoro had settled in their area illegally.
The Chachar tribesmen were cutting trees from the forest illegally and thus the forest was vanishing rapidly, the protesters alleged.
They said the tribesmen were also creating disturbance for the local people.
The protesters demanded from District Nazim Faryal Talpur and the DCO to shift the Chachar tribesmen from their area.
MOHARRAM ARRANGEMENTS: District Nazim Faryal Talpur presided over a meeting here on Wednesday at the Darbar hall regarding the law and order situation during the month of Moharram.
She directed police to control untoward situations efficiently so that processions could pass through various routes without any difficulty.
It was decided in the meeting that objectionable slogans, speeches, cassettes and other material creating ill feeling among various sects would not be allowed and the processions should be taken out from prescribed routes only.
The nazim directed municipal authorities to keep roads neat and clean for the processions.
She directed the health district officer to take measures to provide health facilities on the spot. She appealed to the citizens to remain patient during Moharram.
Ms Talpur said that the peace committee members would remain in contact with police and law enforcing agencies to maintain peace during the rallies.
DCO Abdul Razzaque Qureshi said that the PTCL and the Hesco would remove wires from all routes of the processions.
Others who were present on the occasion were Commandant of the Indus Rangers, Colonel Zameer Khan, DPO Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, TPOs, all taluka nazims and TMOs.
