RAWALPINDI: The Action Committee of Opposition parties’ United Democratic Front, at a three-hour meeting today [April 3], presided over by Pir Pagaro, decided that the leaders of its component parties should tour the entire country, and address joint sessions of their party workers in order to apprise them of the latest situation in the country.

After the meeting … the UDF’s Coordination Committee Chairman, Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, told newsmen that the Action Committee also discussed its constitution and future programme. He said the Action Committee would continue meeting every day till the talks with President Z. A. Bhutto … concluded.

Maulana Noorani released a statement on behalf of the UDF — criticising the Government for imposing “curbs on political activity” and “victimising political workers”. and demanding that a clause be included in the permanent Constitution making any Government which “indulges in usurpation of the political rights of the people” liable to prosecution for “traitorship.” The statement said that at present, when the country’s permanent Constitution was under consideration, it was strongly needed that no curbs were imposed on political activities. — Special Representative
