DACCA: “Unflinching faith in the leadership of the Quaid-i-Azam and whole-hearted support for his views on the language problem”, were subjects of two resolutions passed at a largely attended meeting of Muslim students in the Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall of the Dacca University held recently. Vows “at the cost of their lives to eradicate and uproot ruthlessly the disruptive forces that are rampant in the infant state of Pakistan” were taken in the meeting… .
… An overwhelming majority of the Dacca University students, it may be recalled, had been carrying on a relentless campaign for making Bengali one of the state languages of Pakistan, besides the official language of East Bengal. They had gone on strike to force the Ministry’s hands for getting categorical assurances in that respect and the strike had taken a serious turn when the Quaid-e-Azam’s visit was announced. … At this meeting it was pointed out that … Bengal being geographically apart, it is through a common language that ties of close association must be strengthened with the rest of the provinces in order to consolidate the state.
