WASHINGTON: Confirming a report in the magazine, “Aviation Week and Space Technology”, which said that Pakistani military officers had become a new “air and ground adviser force” in the Middle East, an Embassy spokesman yesterday [March 26] said, “it is a Government-to-Government thing. We do send people out there in an advisory capacity.”

The magazine said that, according to one source, there was an “influx of Pakistanis into the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and in other Arab States such as Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The Abu Dhabi Air Force is commanded by a Pakistani Air Commodore,” the magazine added. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Benghazi, Libya,] the Conference of Islamic Foreign Ministers wound up here early today [March 27] after urging the Indian Government to release the 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war. It noted with “deep concern” that the Pakistani prisoners were suffering from torture, lack of medical care and that many had been shot dead or wounded — according to reports of the Red Cross. The Conference appealed to the United Nations Secretary General to exert all possible efforts to secure the release of the ... prisoners of war.
