LOWER DIR: The staffers of district headquarters hospital Timergara have threatened to boycott their duties to protest derogatory posts and comments against them through fake social media accounts.

Addressing an emergency meeting here on Tuesday, Young Doctors Association president Dr Nadar Khan, Dr Rahim Shah, president of Nursing Association Hidayatullah, general secretary Saeedur Rehman and others showed anger over a social media campaign against the doctors and paramedics of the hospital.

They said that female staff had been insulted by publicising their names on social media. They said that it was against the Pakhtun norms and traditions to disrespect women, especially those who served in the health department.

The speakers said that hospital staff could no longer bear that type of derogatory remarks. They said that they would have no option but to boycott their duties if the campaign against the staff was not stopped.

They also demanded of the government, relevant departments and FIA to crackdown on such fake social media accounts and get the people rid of its misuse.

RPO: Malakand Regional Police Officer Nasir Mehmood has said that lasting peace in region is a result of the sacrifices rendered by people and police.

He was addressing a police ‘darbar’ at Timergara police lines during his visit to the district here on Tuesday. On his arrival, he was warmly received by the district police officer, Tariq Iqbal, and his team.

The RPO also visited Yadgar-i-Shuhada, laid wreaths on it and offered fateha for the departed souls. He checked the record of different offices at the police liens.

He said that there was lasting peace in the region owing to the sacrifices rendered by police officials and locals. He said that resolving disputes through jirga was a commendable tradition of locals. He appreciated dispute resolution council for resolving more than 4,000 disputes.

PROTEST: Social and political activists here on Tuesday held a demonstration against distribution of subsidised wheat flour through Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

The protesters gathered outside Timergara Press Club and chanted slogans against the government. They demanded of the government to distribute subsidised flour through registered dealers instead of BISP staff.
