KHYBER: Armed men attacked a police checkpost in Bara tehsil of the Khyber tribal district on Saturday night, damaging a vehicle parked there.

Sources in Bara said that a group of militants hurled grenades at a checkpost, which was established inside a mosque in Merikhel locality.

They said that the attack caused fire to a vehicle parked inside the checkpost, while the attackers managed to escape when the policemen retaliated to the attack by opening fire.

Though the Bara police tried to cover up the incident, the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the late night attack.

It was also learnt that additional police force was also later dispatched to the area, where a search operation was also conducted with no claim about any arrest.
