PESHAWAR: Speakers at a ceremony highlighted the importance of gender equality through representation of women on social and other media platforms, stating that it would help in highlighting women’s issues.

A networking of social media bloggers, vloggers, media professionals and writers was carried out in Chitral through a project conducted by Chitral Press Club supported by the Canadian government and Aga Khan Rural Support Programme.

According to a press release issued here, the closing ceremony of the project was held in Chitral on Sunday. The participants were told that community sessions were held in Garam Chashma, Drosh and Chitral Town to highlight the women-specific issues followed by panel discussions.

District Officer Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Nusrat Jabeen termed the project as an important milestone and said that in this modern age, increasing the representation of women of Chitral on social and other media platforms was inevitable.

She praised the performance of Aga Khan Rural Support Programme in economic, social and political empowerment of women during the last four decades.

The former District Naib Nazim Maulana Abdul Shakoor also described the project as very important and explained human rights and especially women’s rights in the light of Islamic teachings and said that the violation of the rights of any gender or class would end if the charter or human rights enunciated by Islam are act upon in its entirety.

President of the press club Zaheeruddin highlighted the activities and programmes conducted during the last six months related to the project and said that many problems of women were solved through the women reporting centre.

District Education Officer Shahid Hussain, ADO Education Ayesha Bibi, Professor Hassamuddin, social activist Farida Sultana Faree and Waqas Mohammad Advocate also spoke on the occasion.
