REPORTS of serious disturbances resulting from public resentment at the association of the Hindu Mahasabha and the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh with Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination continue to pour in from different parts of India, many faraway from one another. While long curfews, police firing and prohibitory orders do not appear to have been successful … in checking the rising tide of public feeling, searches carried out in different cities are believed to confirm what were till recently suspicions against the two organisations.

Curfew was reimposed for another 21 hours in Nagpur by the authorities apprehending some trouble within two hours after the relaxation of the 16-hour curfew at 7 a.m. on Tuesday [Feb 3] … when crowds again started collecting on roads in the area where incidents had occurred on Monday. … A large crowd collected on Monday in front of the houses and shops of persons believed to be sympathisers of the Hindu Mahasabha and RSS, in the Mahal area in the city. Four shops were broken into and the crowd made bonfires of the contents. — News agencies
