Ghost teachers

Published February 4, 2023

WHILE education is already a neglected sector in Sindh, especially in underdeveloped areas like Qambar district, the newly-appointed primary and junior elementary school teachers in the district, especially its sub-division Nasirabad, have been contributing to the destruction of education as they have become ghost teachers.

A few of them have been living in Lahore since filing their official joining reports. As a proof, one may demand geo-fencing records of these teachers’ locations from the relevant authorities.

These teachers have been living in Lahore for the last three to four months without seeking and getting official leave sanctioned or giving information to the authorities concerned. Above all, these ghost teachers are paying bribes to the headmasters of their schools to remain absent from their duties.

The teachers are not the only ones to be blamed for such unethical acts. The whole administrative machinery is partner in crime, as the officials who are supposed to make regular visits to schools do not follow the routine.

It is hoped that the relevant officials would wake up from their deep slumber and would do the needful by making the culprits accountable for their wrongdoings. It is their responsibility, after all, to save the country from black sheep, especially in the field of education.
