GUJRAT: A man and his son were shot dead at village Khanowal on Tuesday.

Muhammad Ashraf and his son, Sajjad, were going home in their jeep when they were ambushed by the armed gunmen. As a result of firing, both of them died while the assailants fled.

Daulat Nagar police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH) for an autopsy.

It is learnt that Ashraf was the complainant in a case of murder and attempted murder against a group of his village. Police suspect that the same rival group might be involved in this double murder. No case was lodged till the filing of this report at night.

ROBBERY: Two robbers snatched Rs12.2m from a local businessman in Akhtar Shah Colony on Shadiwal Road.

Businessman Muhammad Arshad left his house in a car with cash to deposit with the bank. As soon as he reached the Shadiwal Road, two armed car riders intercepted him. One of them broke the window glass, snatched the key to the car and took away the cash bag from the car trunk.

The robbers also snatched a hand bag with important identity documents as well as two mobile phones worth around Rs100,000 from Arshad.

A case has been registered against the unidentified suspects.

The business community of Gujrat has urged Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take notice of the rise in robbery incidents in the area.
