PESHAWAR, Jan 4: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in collaboration with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has facilitated the record target of 64,000 earthquake affected families in NWFP and distributed 43,265 tents and 3,22,598 blankets.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, as many as 79,403 tarpaulins sheets, 11,697 winterized sleeping bags, 1,04,547 quilts, 35,558 jerry cans, 30,181 kitchen sets, 27,492 hygiene kits, 16,851 heating stoves, 14,080 bedsheets and 4,216 ladies shawls have been distributed in Garhi Habibullah, Balakot, Battagram, Battal, Siren Valley, Kohistan, Shumlai, Chatar Plain, Hill Kot, Shangla and other Union Councils through Red Crescent field teams and 150 male and female volunteers.
This has been the biggest relief operation by any organization in NWFP. The approximate worth of the relief items stands as Rs2 billion. A number of distributions were also carried out through M126 and other helicopters in inaccessible areas.
In terms of health, the medical teams of the society examined and treated more than 1,43,176 patients and distributed medicines free of cost.
The society plans to distribute CGI sheets and shelter repair kits to approximately 20,000 deserving families including widows and orphans. Each family will receive 10 CGI sheets.—APP
