SHANGLA: The police have arrested a man for killing his niece for honour.

Olandar police station SHO Rafiullah Khan said on November 1, an elderly man, namely Sultan Zamin of Larai area, had reported that his granddaughter had committed suicide by shooting herself with a pistol. However, the autopsy carried out on the body at the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri, revealed the girl was shot dead.

He said after receiving the medical report, the police registered an FIR and nominated the male family members of the slain girl as suspects and started investigation into the case.

SHO Rafiullah said during investigation, the girl’s uncle, namely Asif Nawaz, confessed to killing her on suspicion she had contacted someone on her phone.

The police officer said the suspect had been arrested and a pistol recovered from him.

He said father of the slain girl had died in a coal mine incident, and her mother had got married with a brother of her husband. He said the girl studied in a government girls school.

BODY RECOVERED: Body of a man was recovered from the Indus River by a team of Rescue 1122.

Bisham assistant commissioner Mohammad Jawad Asif said the body was stuck in rocks, and the rescuers took two days to recover it. He said it was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham.

OFFICE-BEARERS: Jamaat-i-Islami elected emirs for Bisham and Alpuri tehsils on Tuesday.

Qasim Shah was made emir for Bisham and Mian Mohammad Tufail for Alpuri.
